TAMPA, Fla. – Lexington SC goalkeeper Amal Knight was named League One Goalkeeper of the Week while forward Ates Diouf and defender Terique Mohammed also featured in the USL League One Week 19 Team of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
The honor marked the third starting Goalkeeper of the Week honor for Knight while also seeing the second appearances in the Team of the Week first team for both Diouf and Mohammed.
Diouf in particular made the USL League One Team of the Week for the third consecutive week.
Facing Union Omaha at home on Saturday, Lexington SC dominated the match, winning 3-0. The win was the largest in club history.
Knight amassed five saves en route to the shutout, being nominated for USL League One Save of the Week for his efforts. The shutout was the third of the season for Knight with all three Knight shutouts seeing the club reign victorious.
One of those shutouts was against Charlotte Independence and saw Knight save a late penalty kick to secure the 1-0 victory, earning him the distinction of being Week 9 USL League One Player of the Week.
Diouf, on the other hand, was one of three athletes to find the back of the net in the win, scoring goal No. 2 late in the first half with a header to conclude a beautiful set piece play. The goal was Diouf’s sixth of the season and saw the Senegalese forward once again tie Nico Brown as club leading scorer.
Diouf is also a former Player of the Week, earning the distinction in week 12 when he recorded the first ever brace in club history against NC Hailstorm FC.
As for Mohammed, he became the first player in club history to record two assists in one match, helping both Brown and Diouf to score the first and second goals of the night in the win. The defender also contributed to the club’s shutout victory.
Lexington SC will return to action in a rematch against Richmond Kickers on July 29 at Toyota Stadium in Georgetown, Ky., where it will hope to continue its momentum.
