About the Lexington Sporting Club Women
On May 16, 2023, Lexington Sporting Club was announced as one of the inaugural clubs set to compete in the Gainbridge Super League, a new Division I professional women’s soccer league launching in 2024. The announcement marked a historic moment for soccer in Central Kentucky and firmly positioned Lexington at the forefront of the women’s game in the United States.
The Lexington SC women’s professional team officially launched in the summer of 2024, ushering in a new era for top level women’s sports in Central Kentucky. After years of intentional investment in the women’s game, the club took the field as a fully professional side in the inaugural season of the Gainbridge Super League.
On August 25, 2024, Lexington SC played its first professional women’s match in club history, traveling to face Carolina Ascent FC. The match ended in a 1–1 draw, marking a milestone moment for the organization and the beginning of Lexington’s journey at the Division I professional level. Just two weeks later, on September 8, 2024, the LSC women returned home for another historic occasion, the club’s first-ever match in its new soccer-specific Lexington SC Stadium. While the match ended in a 3–2 loss against Tampa Bay Sun FC, the significance extended far beyond the final score.
That day marked the first professional match ever played in the stadium, men’s or women’s, making the Lexington SC women the first team to officially take the field in the club’s new home. The moment represented a major step forward for women’s soccer in Kentucky and reflected the club’s commitment to providing equal platforms, facilities, and visibility for the women’s game.
In only their second professional season, the Lexington SC women did something many clubs fail to ever do: they won both the regular season title and were crowned playoff champions, completing a historic double. After a roster overhaul in the offseason, the women opened the 2025/26 campaign with a 16-match unbeaten run, shattering the league’s consecutive unbeaten record. The squad suffered its first loss of the season in February but rebounded quickly, holding a steady position at or near the top of the table as the business end of the season approached. After a road loss to Carolina Ascent on April 11, 2026, the women dialed in, going unbeaten in their final five matches and winning four of them en route to claiming the Players’ Shield on the final day of the regular season.
By winning the league’s regular season title, and in the process claiming the first professional trophy in club history, the Gals in Green earned the right to host throughout the 2026 Gainbridge Super League Playoffs, and they did not disappoint. The women opened with a 2-0 victory at home against Dallas Trinity FC in the semifinal, followed a week later by a thrilling win over Carolina Ascent in the 2026 Gainbridge Super League Final, as the Gals in Green came from behind to win 3-1 in extra time. A sold-out crowd of over 7,000 packed Lexington SC Stadium on May 30, 2026, to watch LSC hoist the championship trophy. The double marked the first in Gainbridge Super League history, giving Lexington Sporting Club the first trophies of its professional era — men’s or women’s.
Today, the Lexington Sporting Club women are getting set to enter their third professional season. As the league prepares a shift from the European fall-to-spring calendar in favor of a traditional American-style calendar, running spring to fall and aligning with LSC’s men’s team, the league will conduct an abbreviated “Sprint Season” in fall 2026. The season will include 14 matches, seven home and seven away, with each team facing every other team once at home and once on the road. The Players’ Shield will be awarded to the team that finishes first at the end of the regular season, and a four-team playoff will be conducted to determine the Fall 2026 Champion.
With a connected youth-to-pro pathway, world-class facilities, and a growing supporter base, the Lexington Sporting Club women remain focused on long-term success on and off the field. As both the club and the Gainbridge Super League continue to grow, Lexington SC women are proud to help shape the future of the women’s game in Central Kentucky and beyond.
