JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Lexington Sporting Club women picked up their second win of the season Sunday evening, besting Sporting Club Jacksonville 1-0 in a battle of last season’s top two clubs.
It took until the 59’ minute for the Gals in Green to tally the only goal of the contest. Allison Pantuso thundered a headed pass downfield for Catherine Barry to chase. Barry beat two defenders to the ball, magically tip-toed down the endline and dished it to Addie McCain in front of goal.
McCain’s shot struck the crossbar and rebounded back to her own feet. She then laid it off to an oncoming McKenzie Weinert for the goal. It marked the first of the new season for Weinert as she became the fifth goalscorer for LSC this season.
Goalkeeper Ryan Campbell was instrumental to Lexington’s victory. She made five saves to pick up her second clean sheet of the season and increase her season total to 14 stops.
Despite surrendering five shots on target and 19 shots in total, the Lexington defense was able to limit Sporting JAX’s high-quality looks to secure the victory.
The win bumped LSC up to 2W-2L-0D on the young season and snapped a short-lived two-match losing streak.
