LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington Sporting Club women picked up right where they left off Saturday night, tallying three goals in the second half and shutting out Brooklyn FC to kickstart the new season.
Perhaps not surprisingly after over two months since their last competitive match, both sides looked a bit sluggish out of the gate. However, Lexington regained its 2025/26 form shortly into the second half and reminded everyone why they are still the team to beat in the Fall 2026 season.
Catherine Barry, the league’s reigning Golden Boot winner, got the party started by opening her account on the new season in the 58’ minute. Addie McCain struck the crossbar with a vicious shot, and Barry used every inch of her six-foot frame to beat everyone to the rebound. She steered her attempt past the keeper to the left, and just like that, the champs were back on top.
Only 158 seconds later, McCain made up for her initial miss when a long ball from Allison Pantuso sprang her down the left flank. McCain calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to double LSC’s lead in the blink of an eye.
McCain’s goal was historic for the Gainbridge Super League. With the score, she became the first player in league history to reach 20, further distancing herself from the competition as the league’s all-time leading scorer.
The club still was not done as Hannah White bagged her first goal since April 26, 2025, to increase the Gals in Green’s lead to 3-0. A dime dropped by Alyssa Bourgeois found White right in front of goal, and the substitute one-timed it on the volley.
Goalkeeper Ryan Campbell picked up her first Gainbridge Super League clean sheet in her debut. She was only forced to make two saves on the evening.
The win was Lexington’s fifth consecutive victory over Brooklyn FC. Over those five matches, it has posted a +10 goal differential.
