CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It was a tough result to stomach for the Lexington Sporting Club women Saturday night. Despite allowing only one shot on target all evening, Lexington saw that one attempt resulted in the only goal of the match to supply Carolina Ascent FC with the 1-0 win.
The lone goal was scored by Carolina in the 32’ minute of the match following an errant Lexington pass deep in its own end of the field. A physical challenge by a Carolina player while trying to capture the loose ball was not called a foul, and ultimately the play resulted in a Carolina goal that had a 0.06% chance of being scored.
For Lexington, the offense was unable to break through the No. 1 ranked defense in the Gainbridge Super League. It mustered three shots on target, but several more quality attempts were blocked by the host’s backline. The Gals in Green also attempted to stretch the Carolina defense throughout the match, but an organized and high Carolina line resulted in a number of offside calls against Lexington.
LSC maintained nearly 62% of possession throughout the contest, though much of it was in unthreatening areas.
Despite the loss, LSC still sits in third place in the Gainbridge Super League standings with a 4W-4L-2D record. A victory next weekend in the nation’s capital could launch the club up to second place with three matches still to play in the Fall 2026 season.
