LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lexington Sporting Club fell to Carolina Ascent FC Saturday night, 1-0, in the rematch of the 2026 Gainbridge Super League Final. Despite leading in expected goals, a concession in the 88’ minute sealed Lexington’s second loss of the young season.
LSC’s 1.65 expected goals indicated the quality of chances it created on the evening. Its first two high-percentage looks came inside the first 25 minutes of play, but McKenzie Weinert and Addie McCain were not able to convert them into goals.
An incredible double-save by the Carolina keeper in the 71’ minute denied McCain once again and Ally Brown, two chances worth 0.89 xG combined.
In the dying moments, a set-piece goal from the visitors rattled home to account for the only score of the match.
Although the Ascent led Lexington in shots (16-12), it was the home side that tallied more shots on target (5-2). However, Carolina made the most of its biggest chance, and that was the difference in the final score.
Lexington fell to 1W-2L-0D on the season with the result.
