LEXINGTON, Ky. — It was a three-goal outing for the Lexington Sporting Club women Friday night to beat Dallas Trinity FC, 3-0. Catherine Barry led the way with two goals as the Gals in Green made it two wins on the bounce.
It took until the second half for Lexington to find the first goal of the match, but it was wonderfully worked and exceptionally executed.
Ally Brown shaked-and-baked in the left corner, meticulously creating inches of separation between her and her mark. After creating just enough breathing room, she got the cross off with her left foot to connect with Addie McCain at the back post.
The goal marked the second of the season for McCain and the 21st of the league’s all-time leading scorer in regular season play.
Brown’s assist was the first goal contribution of the 22-year-old’s professional career.
The reigning Golden Boot winner was the next to find the back of the net, and unlike lightning, she would strike twice.
In the 70’ minute, Catherine Barry did the dirty work and ended up with the glory on the play, chasing down a pass played backwards by Dallas and dispossessing the Trinity recipient. After winning the ball, she drew the goalkeeper out and finished into an empty net.
Ten minutes later, Dallas was called for a handball inside its own box. Lexington was awarded a penalty, and Barry promptly buried her shot in the bottom-left corner to complete the brace.
The two-goal effort was the sixth of Barry’s LSC career, the most in Gainbridge Super League history.
With its second consecutive victory, Lexington improved to 3W-2L-0D on the season.
