LEXINGTON, Ky. — Two of the top three clubs will duke it out in the Bluegrass Friday night when the Lexington Sporting Club women host Sporting Club Jacksonville in a battle between No. 2 and No. 3.
The matchup between two Gainbridge Super League powerhouses will also feature the top three scorers in league history — Addie McCain, Catherine Barry and JAX’s Baylee DeSmit.
McCain entered the season with the scoring crown and has increased her total to 22 regular season goals across her time with Fort Lauderdale United FC and Lexington SC. Her 13 goals in green are the second-most in club history, trailing only the 2025/26 Golden Boot winner, Catherine Barry.
Barry became just the second player in league history to cross the 20-goal threshold last weekend with her 73’ minute strike, joining McCain as the only players in league history to reach the mark. Barry scored her 20th goal in only her 36th regular season appearance.
When taking playoffs into account, McCain sits at 23 Gainbridge Super League goals and Barry at 21.
Lexington is coming off a come-from-behind win in which it rattled off two late goals to stun Tampa Bay Sun FC, 2-1. It continues the trend of Lexington being the highest-scoring club in the second half by scoring 11 of its 12 goals after halftime. It marked the 14th time the Gals in Green have scored two goals within 12 minutes or fewer, dating back to last season.
The Lexington vs. Sporting JAX series has been a competitive one since JAX entered the league last season. Both clubs finished No. 1 and No. 2 in the standings a season ago with Lexington snatching the Players’ Shield on the final day of the regular season.
LSC leads the all-time series with a 3W-1L-0D record. With a victory, LSC will jump into second place in the standings.
Kickoff from Lexington SC Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
SCOUTING JAX
Sporting Club Jacksonville enters play just one point ahead of Lexington in the Gainbridge Super League table. After two wins in its first three matches, Sporting JAX has posted a 1W-2L-2D record over its last five outings.
The club’s 16 goals rank second in the league, as does its 121 shots and 17% conversion rate.
JAX’s attack is fueled by the two-headed monster of Ashlyn Puerta and Baylee DeSmit.
Puerta, the league’s 2025/26 Player of the Year winner, led the league in assists a season ago and was named its Young Player of the Year. She accounted for all four of her side’s goals in its win vs. Fort Lauderdale last weekend to launch herself into second place with five goals in total, trailing only her teammate DeSmit.
DeSmit’s seven goals lead the Gainbridge Super League this season. The forward was named to the All-League Second Team a season ago and continues to punish defenses in the Fall 2026 campaign.
In its history, Jacksonville has scored six goals against Lexington, three of which were scored by Puerta and one by DeSmit.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Over her Gainbridge Super League career, Catherine Barry has posted a strike rate of a goal every 139.1 minutes for Lexington, second only to Sporting JAX’s Baylee DeSmit (117 minutes) among players with at least 10 regular-season goals in the league.
