LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexington Sporting Club forward Khalid Balogun is set to depart on loan to USL Championship outfit Miami FC pending league and federation approval.
Lexington SC will retain the rights to Balogun’s contract — though there are no options for recall prior to the end of the season — and will have the option of retaining the Maryland native at the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Balogun joined Lexington SC ahead of the club’s inaugural 2023 USL League One season from Maryland Bobcats FC in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA).
He scored four goals in his debut campaign with two assists, scoring the first non penalty kick goal in club history on April 1 on the road against current USL Championship club North Carolina FC.
So far this campaign Balogun has scored one goal in his ten matches played — one started — with five shots (one on goal) in 256 minutes of USL League One, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and USL Jagermeister Cup action.
Balogun will join Miami FC in the USL Championship, which currently sits 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 2-12-2 (8 points) record through 16 games.
The former two-time National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) champions have struggled on offense, scoring 17 goals, tied for third lowest in the Eastern Conference, and hope Balogun can help rejuvenate the offense for the back half of the season.
