TAMPA, Fla. – Lexington SC goalkeeper Amal Knight was named USL League One Player of the Week while Terique Mohammed and Khalid Balogun also featured in the Team of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
In a 1-0 win over Charlotte Independence, Knight not only kept a clean sheet, but also recorded six saves including saving a penalty kick in extra time to secure the win. It marked the second shutout for the team this season and the Club’s second Player of the Week honor after Owen Green garnered the award in Week 5.
As for Mohammed, he completed four clearances, two interceptions and one tackle on defense while notching two shots off target and three successful crosses on offense.
Finally, Balogun featured on the Bench of the Team of the Week after checking into the game in the 73rd minute and scoring the winning goal just five minutes later off an assist by Green.
With the second win in the books, Lexington SC will look to build from the result when it hits the road against Richmond Kickers, on Saturday, May 20, at City Stadium in Richmond, Va. Following the road trip the club will return home for its first rematch against league rivals One Knoxville SC from Toyota Stadium in Georgetown, Ky., on Saturday, May 27.
