COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A Western Conference clash awaits Lexington SC in the Centennial State Saturday as LSC and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC duke it out 6,350 feet above sea level.
Lexington is coming off a loss in the Second Round of the U.S. Open Cup, a disappointing result but one that will allow Mac Hemmi’s group to finally recharge and recover.
Saturday’s match will mark the fifth for the LSC men in 17 days, but a full week of rest awaits on the other side.
Lexington’s defense has started strong out of the gate, recording two clean sheets through four league matches. Goalkeeper Oliver Semmle is one of seven keepers in the USL-C with multiple shutouts.
Blaine Ferri, who was named to the league’s Week 4 Team of the Week Tuesday, leads the Greens with nine chances created, followed closely by Nick Firmino with eight.
Also receiving a Team of the Week bench nod earlier this week was Aaron Molloy. Molloy ranks first on the club with three goals scored across all competitions, two of which we nominated for the league’s Goal of the Week.
Lexington and the Switchbacks each won once and lost once in two meetings last season. The home side won both fixtures.
Kickoff from Weidner Field is set for 5 p.m. ET.
SCOUTING COLORADO SPRINGS
Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC enters play tied on points with Lexington and with an identical 1W-2L-1D record. The club drew El Paso Locomotive in the season opener, beat Las Vegas Lights FC, then dropped back-to-back matches against Orange County SC and New Mexico United.
Alan McCann was named the side’s head coach prior to the season after serving as an assistant since 2021, eventually working his way up to technical director.
Like Lexington, the Switchbacks enter play with tired legs. The match will be their fifth in 19 days, and they are coming off a midweek win over Spokane Velocity in the U.S. Open Cup that required 120 minutes and penalty kicks to be decided.
On the season, Switchbacks FC ranks second in goals scored (7), but have also conceded eight, the fourth-most in the USL Championship.
Khori Bennett leads Colorado Springs with three goals, while Sam Williams leads with two assists. Goalkeeper Colin Shutler has made four saves on 10 shots faced.
