LEXINGTON, KY – In a defining moment for Lexington Sporting Club and the local soccer community, the club proudly announces Terry Boss as the head coach of its USL Championship men’s team. A leader with deep roots in the game, Boss brings an inspiring story of success, resilience, and commitment to player development that aligns perfectly with the values of Lexington and its passionate supporters.
“I would like to thank owners Bill Shively and Stephen Dawahare, for the privilege of being the next head coach for Lexington SC. I am grateful and excited for the opportunity,” said Boss. “People are the most important part of any project, and it was clear from our first conversation that this was a group of people I wanted to work with. The owners and the organization’s commitment to excellence is inspiring. We are aligned in how we want to play and how we want to compete. Our shared ambition to win, and to win our way, makes me believe we can build something special together that the city of Lexington will be proud of.”
Boss arrives in Lexington after two impactful seasons as an assistant coach with Austin FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). Known for his ability to inspire teams and players, Boss has a decorated career that includes being twice named Pac-12 Coach of the Year during his tenure at Oregon State University. In 2021, he guided Oregon State to a historic No. 1 national ranking and the top seed in the NCAA Tournament, proving his ability to build programs that exceed expectations. Additionally, Boss has also served as an assistant/ goalkeeper coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2019.
Beyond his accolades, Boss’s journey reflects perseverance and passion. As a former professional goalkeeper, he competed in MLS with Seattle Sounders FC and New York Red Bulls, and he represented Puerto Rico’s national team. When injuries cut his playing career short, he transitioned to coaching, where his leadership has positively impacted programs at the collegiate, national, and professional levels.
“We are thrilled to announce Terry Boss as the new head coach of the Lexington Sporting Club Championship League team,” said Kim Shelton, CEO of Lexington Sporting Club. “Terry’s commitment to excellence, dedication to the development of players and exciting style of play aligns perfectly with our club’s vision. We look forward to the leadership and energy that Terry will bring to our club and the impact that he will have both on and off the field.”
The Lexington community is encouraged to rally behind Boss and the team as they prepare for their inaugural USL Championship season, a historic step for the city’s soccer future.
