LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexington Sporting Club is pleased to announce the hiring of USL Super League Director of Player Management and Operations Sly Yeates, effective immediately.
Yeates is a Utah native and has been working in soccer for over two decades in multiple facets of the game. Yeates attended Utah State University, playing 2 years of soccer, while majoring in exercise science.
Yeates went on to work in the medical field, spending 16 years as a physical therapy aid and gym manager, while coaching youth club, High School, and ODP, as well as receiving her USSF National ‘B’ License. Yeates eventually started her own youth club, FC Bayern Utah before taking a position with a club in Houston, TX. In Houston, she was the Head Coach for numerous teams, and the schedule coordinator for Rise SC. Yeates later moved back to her home state and became the Girls Director and Head Coach for Utah Surf prior to her most recent coaching role at one of the top ECNL clubs in the state, Utah Avalanche. During her time as a youth coach, Yeates also took several teams to prestigious European competitions.
On the ODP level, Yeates was involved as an Assistant and Head Coach for the ODP State Select Teams, a program dedicated toward developing emerging youth stars in the state of Utah. In 2022 she also began working as a staff/Assistant Coach for the ODP program on the Regional level for the Midwest Region.
In addition to coaching, Yeates spent 20+ years on the field as a soccer official for USSF, NFHS, and NISOA (National Intercollegiate Soccer Official Association). On the Collegiate level, Yeates was a part of the National Referee Program with numerous NCAA Tournament assignments, as well as several D1 Conference Championships.
Yeates also has a background in Speed and Agility. Having received her Personal Training Certification through NASM, and with extensive training in the field, she provided an off-season program for players of all ages to aide in performance enhancement and injury prevention in various sports.
While maintaining other positions, Yeates also began serving as a registration manager for the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). In 2022 she also began serving as the West Coast Associate Commissioner and Owner/Head Coach for Griffins FC within the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL).
From 2020 until recent, Yeates’ career path led her into teaching and coaching at Salt Lake Academy High School, where she also received her US Soccer Director of Coaching License. She spent the past two years as the Girls Program Director and Varsity Head Coach, leading the team to a State Championship during her tenure. Yeates was also a part of the Boys’ Program as the Boy’s Freshman/Sophomore Head Coach, also winning a Regional title.
A passionate member of the American soccer community and a professional at handling diverse strenuous tasks and responsibilities, Yeates will join Lexington Sporting Club for the inaugural USL Super League season, bringing top flight professional women’s soccer to the Horse Capital of the World.
With a brand new state-of-the-art soccer-specific stadium being built in Lexington, Lexington SC will play its USL Super League Home Opener on September 8th against Tampa Bay Sun FC!
