Lexington, KY — Lexington Sporting Club is proud to announce the appointment of Nigel McCarthy as the USL League One men’s team new Head of High Performance. With over a decade of experience in strength and conditioning across a variety of sports, McCarthy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this crucial role.
“Nigel’s background in sports science and performance coaching will be pivotal in enhancing the physical preparedness of our athletes,” said Head Coach Darren Powell of Lexington Sporting Club. “We are excited to have him lead our high-performance efforts.”
McCarthy is the Founder and Owner of NMC Sport Performance, where he has specialized in personal training, team training, and performance testing since 2014. He has served as Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Hungarian National Artistic Swimming Team and Birkirkara F.C. Women’s Team. Additionally, McCarthy has worked with multiple international Olympic sailors and holds the position of Executive Director for the Maltese Olympic Committee.
McCarthy holds a BSc in Sports Science and an MSc in Strength and Conditioning from St Mary’s University, London, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Strength and Conditioning at the same institution. He also serves as a Lecturer at the University of Malta.
McCarthy’s international experience in sports such as football, swimming, sailing, and artistic swimming has positioned him as a leading figure in athlete development. His extensive certifications include the ASCA Strength & Conditioning Coach Level 2 Accreditation and Doping Control Officer certification from UKAD and WADA. He is also completing UEFA C Coaching and UEFA B Fitness Coach qualifications in 2024.
