LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexington Sporting Club announced another new addition to its 2024 USL League One roster pending league and federation approval on Thursday.
22-year-old Jayden Onen is set to join the club from Forward Madison FC within the USL League One.
Born in Tottenham, England, Onen is an attacking midfielder who saw the pitch in 27 matches with the Mingos, netting four goals during his tenure.
Prior to his move to Wisconsin, Onen played for several clubs in his home country of England. Getting his start within Arsenal’s academy, he joined the academy of Brighton & Hove Albion after a brief pitstop with Crystal Palace Academy. He made an EFL Trophy appearance with the Seagulls.
After leaving Brighton & Hove, Onen began his professional career with Brentford’s B team before moving to the U23 squads of Reading and Sheffield Wednesday. He also made one appearance on loan at Bromley.
Onen is also of Ugandan descent, which allowed him to make his first international appearance when he was called up for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. While the games were postponed, he participated in training camps in Dubai.
“I’m really delighted to be joining Lexington Sporting Club,” Onen said. “ After speaking with the gaffer and Sam Stockley, it’s clear both mine and the club’s ambitions align. I’m excited for the future and can’t wait to play in front of the fans this season and push for a title!”
“We are pleased that Jayden has chosen LSC as his next destination on his journey,” Head Coach Darren Powell said. “He was one of the USL League One top performers last year and he has the desire to continue to improve. Jayden works both sides of the ball from an attacking position. He has dynamic movements in tight situations with the ball where he always looks to execute in a positive manner in the final phase of the game. He is a player that can influence games and, as he improves, he can be a force in the league both in and out of possession. He is a player that can become a favorite with our fans once he arrives and gets working hard on the field.”
