LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lexington Sporting Club fell to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC Saturday evening, 1-0, to make it three losses in the Greens’ last four matches after a red-hot stretch to start the summer.
It took 74 minutes for the only goal of the match, and it went in favor of Colorado Springs. After a half-clearance from deep within its own box ended up at the feet of Jonas Fjeldberg, the substitute unleashed a shot from distance with plenty of space around him. The shot went in, just wide of Oliver Semmle’s outstretched arm.
It was one of the few scoring chances created by Colorado Springs up to that point. Lexington held the visitors to only two shots on target up to that point, both of which were easily handled by Semmle.
Despite losing 1-0, Lexington nearly quintupled the Switchbacks’ expected goals, 1.25 to 0.26. But at the end of the day, Colorado Springs made its best chance count while LSC was unable to do so.
The result snapped a modest four-match win streak at home for the Greens, who fell to 9W-9L-4D on the season with eight matches remaining.
