LEXINGTON, Ky. – Midfielder Yannick Yankam of Lexington SC has been called up to the Maltese national team for the country’s upcoming international friendlies.
Malta will play the Czech Republic on June 7 in the Untersberg-Arena in Grodig, Austria, in preparation for the UEFA Nations League, which is set to return to action in September. Malta is in Group D along with the likes of Andorra, Moldova, Liechtenstein, Gibraltar and San Marino.
The Maltese will also play a second international friendly on June 11 against Greece, also in Austria.
Yankam, age 26, was born in Qormi, Malta, where he started his soccer career and made his debut to the Maltese national squad in 2023.
The midfielder, who boasts two goals for the Boys in Green, scored a goal for his country in a 2-1 victory over North Macedonia during qualifying for the 2024 European Championship (The Euro).
Lexington SC has one match during that window, a road trip to league rival One Knoxville SC as part of the USL Jägermeister Cup on June 8.
