Lexington Sporting Club announces addition of Abel Caputo
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexington Sporting Club announced another new addition to its 2024 USL League One roster pending league and federation approval on Wednesday.
“It’s a great honor to join this club and come to the city of Lexington,” Caputo said. “The ownership and staff have a great project set forth to bring success to this city, and I’m excited to get to work right away and bring joy to the fans.”
23-year-old midfielder Abel Caputo is set to join the club after most recently playing for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USL Championship.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Caputo started his career outside his home country in Spain with the U19 squad of Levante U.D. — He then moved to Belgium where he joined KSV Roeselare, which has since ceased operations.
Caputo moved to the United States in 2020 to join the Florida Soccer Soldiers of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL). One year later he would join Fort Lauderdale CF, which has since rebranded into Inter Miami II, where he met now Lexington Sporting Club head coach Darren Powell and fellow signee Modesto Méndez.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome Abel to Lexington. Abel is a player that is very versatile and will help the team in several different positions, but mainly as a midfielder. He is an intelligent player in and out of possession — and his range of passing is able to influence the tempo of the game short and long. He is able to read the game out of possession and make timely interceptions. Looking forward to connecting with him in Lexington,” said Head Coach Darren Powell.
