LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexington Sporting Club announced another new addition to its 2024 USL League One roster pending league and federation approval on Friday.
22-year-old defender Michael Agboola is set to join the club and make the jump from England to the USA.
An English national with Nigerian descent, Agboola — a center back — started his career in his home country with Dagenham & Redbridge’s U18 squad.
From there he would make a move that he has become most synonymous for in his career, joining the U18 squad of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.
With Wolves, whose first team participates in the English Premier League, Agboola continued to develop and eventually graduated to the U21 squad in the Premier League 2, a league full of academy squads in the English game. Agboola even netted a goal in the league.
He departed Wolverhampton in 2023 and caught the attention of Lexington head coach Darren Powell, who when asked about Agboola, said “We are excited to announce Michael joining us in Lexington — Michael is a versatile player who can play both as a CB and DCM depending on the formation we choose to play. He is strong on the ball and has good ability to switch the play or break 1,2, or 3 lines while in possession of ball with his passing. Defensively, he is strong in the air and in his tackles. He will look to compete immediately and put together a consistent body of work for our team. We look forward to his arrival!”
“I appreciate the opportunity to showcase my talent at Lexington SC and I’m really excited about the set up and the goals that are set for this season,” Agboola said.
*Pending league and federation approval and receipt of the player’s ITC and P-1 visa*
Lexington SC is set to kick off its 2024 campaign at home against NC Hailstorm FC on March 9.
