LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexington Sporting Club announced a late addition to its first team squad Wednesday, bringing in defender Cesar Murillo Jr., pending league and federation approval.
Murillo Jr. will join the club for its inaugural United Soccer League (USL) League One season after one season at Forward Madison FC.
Originally from El Paso, Texas, Murillo Jr. joined FC Dallas’ youth team in 2011 before playing NCAA Division I collegiate soccer at the College of Charleston from 2014-17.
Murillo Jr. then joined North Texas SC, a club owned and operated by FC Dallas that once played in USL League One, in 2019, where he helped the squad win the first-ever League One title. He then moved to Texas United, a USL League Two club, for the 2020 season.
Not stopping there, Murillo Jr. joined Greenville Triumph SC from 2020-21, appearing in 31 matches while helping the club win the 2020 USL League One title. He spent the 2022 season with Forward Madison.
“It means a lot to be among the first signings for Lexington SC,” said Murillo Jr. “I’m excited to get going and help provide wins for the city of Lexington. Individually, a goal of mine is to be a leader and a key piece to help the team get as many wins as possible, as well as bring home a league title.”
“Cesar is someone we’ve been tracking for a period of time,” said Sam Stockley, head coach of Lexington SC. “When we had the opportunity to bring him in to work with the team and see how he fit into the culture, it became immediate clear that he would be a great fit. He’s a fantastic center back with understanding of the league as he’s been part of USL League One champions, and he’s fantastic at leading and organizing the group using those experiences.”
Fans can follow Cesar Murillo Jr. on Twitter and Instagram.
Lexington begins its first USL League One season on Saturday, March 18, at One Knox SC before welcoming Murillo Jr.’s former club, Forward Madison, for its home opener on April 8.
