Born in Cape Coast, Ghana, Ackon is a center back who had several stints with the Loyal from 2020 until the club ultimately ceased operations at the end of the 2023 season.
Prior to joining the Loyal, Ackon played for San Antonio FC for a year, and prior to his professional career, was a standout on the American collegiate soccer scene with Bowling Green State University.
His time with the Falcons saw him get selected in the MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire, though he would be unable to sign for the club due to them having met its quota for international players.
During and before his collegiate career, Ackon also saw the field with Lansing United of the Premier Development League (PDL), which would later become USL League Two — and the Ebusua Dwarfs in his home country of Ghana.
“What a year to overcome obstacles,” Eby said. “I am thrilled to be part of this group for the 2024 campaign. I have a high expectation of what this organization will become now and in the near future. I’m already looking forward for next year.”
Head Coach Darren Powell
“We are excited to have Eby join us in Lexington as we think he can develop into one of the top defenders in the league. Eby is an asset on both sides of the ball and is especially aggressive in recovering the ball for his team. His experience will help lead our team in 2024, and we are looking forward to working with Eby this upcoming season.”
