LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexington Sporting Club announced on Tuesday the signing of goalkeeper Luke Phillips to a USL Academy contract.
Signing a USL Academy contract allows Phillips to train and play with Lexington SC’s first team while also maintaining college eligibility, something he would otherwise lose playing at the professional level. He will also be able to compete with Lexington SC’s USL Academy squad, which officially launched last fall and looks to embark on its first full season.

“I am beyond thrilled to be Lexington’s first USL Academy signing,” Phillips said. “I’m thankful for the faith and trust the coaches have put in me.”
“Luke is a bright, energetic, and explosive young goalkeeper,” said Connor Talbot, Head of Goalkeeping. “His maturity and understanding are far beyond his years. We are thrilled to have him this early in his career and very excited to see his progression throughout the season and beyond.”
Phillips grew up in Liberty Hill, Texas, having previous youth experience with Lonestar SC of the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL).
“I look forward to representing Lexington and all it stands for,” Phillips added. “I’m very grateful for all the coaches and players that are mentoring me and for the opportunity to be part of such a great team.”
Lexington SC will be taking part in the upcoming USL Academy Cup March 31-April 2 in Tampa, Fla. The Club will send squads representing U13 Boys, U13 Girls, U15 Boys, U19 Boys and U19 Girls.
