TAMPA, Fl. – Lexington SC goalkeeper Amal Knight was named Goalkeeper of the Week in the USL League One Week 12 Team of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Defender Cesar Murillo Jr. and forward Ates Diouf also featured on the bench.
In a 1-1 draw against Tormenta FC that saw Lexington SC earn its first road point of the season Knight recorded a staggering nine saves with just one goal, a penalty kick, allowed to secure the 1-1 draw.
Knight is no stranger to the Team of the Week list, having been named Player of the Week back in Week 9 after saving a penalty kick in Lexington’s 1-0 win over Charlotte Independence.
As for Murillo Jr., the defender earned his first assist of the year on Lexington’s lone goal, heading a ball off a corner kick right to forward Ates Diouf who then sent it into the net. He also recorded a shot in the match.
On the defensive side of the ball Murillo Jr. recorded three tackles and three clearances with one interception, helping make Lexington SC one of the best intercepting teams in the league.
Diouf was the lone goalscorer in the match for Lexington and the only player in the match to score in free play, with Tormenta FC’s goal coming from an early penalty. Diouf is also no stranger to the Team of the Week list, having been named Player of the Week just last week after recording the first brace in club history in a 2-2 draw against NC Hailstorm FC.
The Senegalese forward had three shots in the match and has currently scored all three of Lexington SC’s last three goals. His scoring efforts have helped Lexington SC to earn three straight draws, the longest point streak in club history.
With a streak of points going, Lexington SC will look to continue building on the momentum as it returns home for a rematch against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Wednesday before hitting the road once again for a rematch against the current No. 1 team in the league in North Carolina FC.
