LEXINGTON, Ky.— Lexington Sporting Club exited the 2026 U.S. Open Cup Wednesday night with a 2-0 loss to Louisville City FC.
LouCity found the opener 23 minutes into the match with a Babacar Niang tap-in. A corner kick delivery bounced around wildly in the box, hit the post and touched four sets of feet before it went in.
Another for the visitors bounced in at the 51’ minute mark. Instead of flying in immediately, Mukwelle Akale’s shot ricocheted off his teammate, Tola Showunmi, and was redirected into goal.
The loss does not count against Lexington SC’s 2026 league record.
