About the Lexington Sporting Club Men
On October 5, 2021, the city of Lexington was awarded a USL League One expansion team, officially bringing professional men’s soccer to Central Kentucky and establishing the Lexington SC men’s professional team.
The Lexington SC men began play in 2023, launching their professional era on March 18, 2023, with their first away match against One Knoxville SC. Their first home match at Georgetown College took place on April 8, 2023, marking the team’s debut in front of local supporters. The Lexington SC men competed in USL League One during the 2023 and 2024 seasons while plans for a permanent soccer-specific stadium in Lexington were finalized.
A major milestone arrived on August 13, 2024, when Lexington SC announced that the men’s team would move up to the USL Championship ahead of the 2025 season, marking the next phase of the club’s growth. Just one month later, the team christened its new home, playing the first match at Lexington SC Stadium on September 13, 2024. The opening of the soccer-specific stadium established a permanent home in Lexington and set the stage for the club’s entry into the Championship.
Following the 2024 season, the Lexington SC men officially began their USL Championship journey, with a 2-0 home victory over Hartford Athletic on March 8, 2025, at Lexington SC Stadium.
From its founding to the present day, the Lexington SC men’s professional team has progressed rapidly from a USL League One expansion side to a USL Championship club. The Lexington SC men are currently in their fourth professional season and their second competing in the USL Championship.
About the USL Championship
Since its launch in 2011, United Soccer League’s (USL) Championship has quickly become the fastest-growing professional soccer league in North America. USL Championship aims to bring professional soccer to fans in communities across the country and currently comprises 24 teams across two conferences for the 2025 season.
Competing in communities with populations between 100,000 and over 2.6 million residents, the USL Championship has brought the professional game to millions of people who previously had no access to a local professional soccer club. Based in Tampa, Fla., the USL supports its clubs through a dedicated staff of more than 60 executives in vital business areas including – Broadcasting, Sponsorship, Communications, Competition, League Operations, Merchandise Licensing, Team Services and more.
Through the USL Championship, the USL will continue to lead the future growth of the ‘beautiful game’ in North America by cultivating and encouraging authentic local support for its clubs and helping those clubs to become beloved resources in their communities.

Lexington Sporting Club’s men’s team competes in the USL Championship, one of the top professional soccer leagues in the United States.
No. Lexington SC does not compete in Major League Soccer (MLS). The club plays in the USL Championship, a separate professional league within the U.S. soccer system.
The USL Championship is a men’s professional soccer league in the second tier of the United States league system. The league currently coinsists of 25 clubs divided into an Eastern & a Western conference. At the end of the season, the top team overall wins the Players’ Shield, while the top eight teams in each conference advance to a playoff tournament culminating in the USL Championship final, which determines the champion.
The USL Championship is sanctioned by the U.S. Soccer Federation as a Division II professional league.
The men’s regular season runs from early March to late October with playoffs running through the month of November.

Yes. The Lexington SC men have competed in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup every year since the team’s inugural 2023 season. Additionally, since 2024, the team has competed in the Prinx Tires USL Cup.
Yes. The USL Championship has a number of clubs that will be coming into the league in the next few seasons such as Atletico Dallas and Santa Barbara Sky FC.
