PROGRAMS AND CLASSES
Often a child’s first experience with group learning, this class is designed to give them a perfect start. Activities with bubbles, parachutes, cones and other sensory toys build skills for balance, coordination, running, tracking, kicking and changing directions—all building blocks needed for playing soccer. With parents by their side, our youngest Lil’ Kickers feel safe to explore new experiences and create new relationships while learning in a fun and dynamic environment. This class is adult interactive.
In this class, kids begin to learn to actively engage with the coach and other players. Using their inquisitive nature and sense of wonderment, we work to shape confidence and self-esteem while building on core movements like balance, coordination and timing–all necessary for mastering a soccer ball. While parent involvement continues here, this class bridges the gap between parallel play and directly interacting with the coach and other players.
Here, preschoolers who are not quite ready to be on the field alone discover some independence. With fun and engaging games, we help them begin to master basic movement and ball control skills with the goal of them becoming more interactive with the coach, to play with (rather than alongside) their peers and to engage in the game. Parents are there to provide just the right support.
Sharing can be tough for preschoolers—but that’s where the fun begins! Soccer (and life) is about teamwork, and our classes help kids learn to play, share, and grow together. Creative stories, high-energy coaches, and plenty of giggles keep every session exciting. They’ll run, laugh, and learn without even realizing how much they’re improving—on the field and off it!
For those who are naturally a little more competitive or with previous class experience, our Jackrabbits enjoy imaginative games and adventures guiding them towards great soccer skills (specifically passing, trapping, shooting, attacking and defending) and introduce them to scrimmaging. Take a closer look and you’ll spot big gains in communication, listening, sharing—and a whole lot of perseverance and resilience, too!
For kids who are just getting introduced to organized soccer or who are less competitive by nature but want a great soccer experience. Full of all the same fun, goofiness and opportunities to learn soccer and life skills, these classes do it just a little differently.
For kids who are driven to play. While coaching remains child-centered and fun this curriculum is fundamentals focused and provides game-like situations each week that help solidify learning. Players enjoy 30 minutes of age-appropriate instruction and 20 minutes of small-sided scrimmaging. Classes are offered by age and include Micro 4/5, Micro 6/7, Micro 8/9, Micro Advanced 5/6, and Micro Advanced 7/8.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where do classes take place?
Lexington Sporting Club Indoor 2: 404 Sporting Ct STE 11, Lexington, KY 40503
How long are your sessions?
We offer four sessions a year (fall, winter, spring, summer) that break down to approximatively 10-13 week cycles.
What should my child wear to class?
Players should wear their Lil’ Kickers jersey or comfortable athletic clothing with closed-toe shoes. Kids naturally take pride in looking like the older, uniformed players they look up to, and wearing the Lil’ Kickers jersey is a fun way to help your child feel part of the team. Jerseys are provided free to first-time customers and can be purchased at a low cost afterward. Shin guards are not required until Micro classes.
Can I drop my child off for class?
No, a parent or guardian are required to be on-site at all times. Some classes require parent or guardian participation.
Can I sign my child up for Lil’ Kickers in the middle of a season?
Yes! We offer open enrollment, so you can join at any time and have your class fees prorated. You’ll only pay for the remaining classes, not the full session.
What if I can’t make it to one of my classes?
We understand that life can get busy and you may have to miss a class. You’re welcome to make up any missed class within the same class type, based on availability. Make-up classes must be completed within the current session, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your requests. If you have multiple children, please schedule a separate make-up class for each child.
What are the child-to-coach ratios for each class?
Ratios may vary depending on factors such as the children’s mobility, parent participation, and the class’s technical level. In most cases, a second coach is added when a class exceeds eight children to maintain quality instruction and attention. Some exceptions may apply.
If my child is struggling in class without parents on the field, such as a Hoppers or Jackrabbits class, is it okay for me to be on the field to help my child?
In this situation, we generally suggest placing your child in a Cottontails class. These classes are intentionally structured to foster independence and confidence, and we’ve found they offer an effective, long-term solution to separation issues.
How does this program teach soccer if there’s not a lot of traditional soccer play?
While many soccer programs focus on traditional skill drills to teach fundamentals, we take a child-centered approach to coaching. Our goal is to make learning fun and engaging by presenting instruction in ways children naturally understand. Using techniques designed around how kids learn best, Lil’ Kickers not only teaches soccer fundamentals but also focuses on developing the whole child. Our program helps build social, emotional, and cognitive skills—shaping well-balanced, confident, and conscientious individuals both on and off the field.
