26-year-old defender “CC” Uche joins the club after most recently playing for Minnesota United II in the MLS Next Pro.
Hailing from Queens, New York, Uche, full name Chinenye Chidera Uche, began his youth career with Georgia United Academy in 2014, though he also spent time training with major South American clubs like Chile’s O’Higgins and Argentina’s River Plate.
Ready for college, Uche committed to Duke and played two seasons for the Blue Devils as a freshman and sophomore, making 18 appearances for the former National Champions.
Durham would not be where he’d stay, however, as he transferred to Ohio State for his junior and senior years, making 22 appearances for the Buckeyes before suffering a season-ending injury.
It was during his collegiate tenure that he also suited up for Chicago FC United in the USL League Two.
Going on to be selected 41st overall in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft by Los Angeles FC (LAFC), he instead signed his first professional contract with the Las Vegas Lights in the USL Championship.
He made 26 appearances with a goal for the Lights in 2021, before joining Minnesota United II in 2022. When his contract ended with Minnesota, he became a trialist for Lexington SC and has now signed to a performance-based professional contract.
“I’m really looking forward to joining Lexington Sporting Club , making my mark on the field, and contributing to help build on the success already established here at this club.” said Uche.
“We welcome CC to the team, he is an experienced defender who is going to add depth to our back four – he brings pace, recovers the ball well and shows ability to start attacks by moving the ball progressively from the back,” head coach Darren Powell said. “We’re excited to work with him!”
